Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen warms up
Spurs centre-back Jan Vertonghen spoke to the club’s official website, and raved about the quality of teammate Harry Winks, suggesting that his improvement over the last couple of years has been ‘unbelievable’.
The 21-year-old burst on to the scene at the start of the season, and has impressed with a succession of superb displays where he has proved to be assured on the ball, intelligent in possession and mature in the way he goes about his business.
Winks has made 27 appearances in all competitions for Mauricio Pochettino’s side so far this season, with 10 of those being starts, and many believe that he will become a first-team regular over the next couple of seasons.
There is fierce competition for places in his position, however, with the likes of Mousa Dembele, Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier currently ahead of him in the midfield pecking order at White Hart Lane.
But Vertonghen is a big fan of the youngster, highlighting how much he has progressed over the last couple of seasons, as quoted by TottenhamHotspur.com:

“He had a very good game against Gent [last week’s first leg], obviously the result wasn’t very good. If you see how he improved in the last couple years it is unbelievable.”
The Lilywhites currently sit in third position in the Premier League table, 10 points adrift of league leaders Chelsea.
And Winks will be hoping to really prove his worth to his manager over the remainder of the season, as he looks to become a regular starter for Tottenham.
