Italian transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà has written that Hellas Verona have made an attempt to sign Manchester United ‘s Guillermo Varela.
Uruguayan right back Guillermo Varela was the first arrival of the David Moyes era but he is already looking to leave, albeit temporarily.
Moyes gave the green light to complete the signature of 20-year-old Varela from Penarol while he was still getting his feet under the table at Old Trafford.
The deal had already been set in motion under the tenure of former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson who was impressed by Varela’s performances at the Under-20 World Cup.
However, Varela has been surplus to requirements so far this season and he has reportedly been pushing for the chance to be sent out on loan.
The player allegedly tried to persuade United to allow him to return to Penarol on a temporary basis to get some game time.
But reports suggest that Serie A side Torino have made an approach and could now be joined by Verona in the race to sign Varela.
Pedullà believes that the stumbling block that has prevented Varela leaving so far lies in the terms of the loan.
Manchester United are said to be looking for a paid loan while Torino and Verona are unwilling to pay a fee for the temporary switch.
The Premier League outfit are unlikely to agree to sell Varela outright as he is seen as a potential star of the future and his value could rise significantly.
