Tottenham Hotspur striker Vincent Janssen sealed a season long loan to Fenerbahce last week where he will be bidding to get his career back on track.
The Dutchman flopped in North London after a big money move from AZ Alkmaar, and links up with former Spurs flop Roberto Soldado at the Turkish club.
One new teammate who had more success in the Premier League was former Arsenal and Manchester striker Robin van Persie.
Van Persie already knows Janssen from the Dutch international squad, with the veteran recently recalled for their latest World Cup qualifiers.
But it was last year that the former Premier League golden boot winner pledged to take Janssen under his wing and help him out.
Football Oranje reported Van Persie told AD: “I have seen Vincent Janssen play, I think he is a really good striker. He’s done really good in Orange. But I also see things in his game that I think I could help him. Details, small notes and tips.
“If Vincent is open to it, of course, the way that time between Ruud van Nistelrooy and me went.
“I myself have long played in the Premier League for eleven years. In the process, I could play a good role, I think.”
Now Van Persie has a chance to mentor Janssen more regularly and could prove to be vital in helping him re-discover his confidence.
Van Persie is out with an injury for the next month, which will allow his new teammate a better chance to get a run in the side.
With support from Soldado too, Janssen will hope this 12 months is more successful than the last.
