Manchester United boss caught up with Arjen Robben this week.
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal was a surprise visitor at the Bayern Munich hotel ahead of their clash with Manchester City.
Bayern’s Champions League preparations were only briefly interrupted however, with Van Gaal making it clear he was not there to meet the whole team.
Reported by German outlet SportBILD, Van Gaal was there to catch up with one player in particular.
He said: “I do not visit Bayern, but Arjen Robben. For dinner I will not stay.”
Van Gaal knows Robben well, he signed him for Bayern Munich from Real Madrid, and managed him at the recent World Cup for Holland.
Robben even admitted after the tournament that Van Gaal had enquired with him about signing for United, but he had only signed a new contract months earlier, and Bayern would have rebuffed any official enquiries.
Van Gaal’s meeting shows the rapport he still enjoys with the Dutchman, and may not have given up entirely on bringing him to United one day.
