Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal criticised Robin van Persie for picking up a needless late booking.

The striker was cautioned for taking his shirt off while celebrating his late equaliser, caught up in the moment after netting the dramatic goal.

While the rule is seen as a needless one, it’s one players are clearly aware of, and Van Gaal believes his former international captain should know better.

Van Persie now has three yellow cards in the Premier League this season, more than any player in the United side.

Another two yellow cards for Van Persie would see him suspended for a match, a problem Van Gaal would rather not have to worry about.

Successive cards against Manchester City and Crystal Palace would see the striker become unavailable for the game against his former side Arsenal.
