Liverpool central defender Virgil van Dijk has said that he will eventually take a free kick for the Reds, while responding to a Celtic fan’s question on Sky Sports.

What’s the story?

Van Dijk has done a Q&A on Sky Sports, answering questions from Liverpool as well as rival fans.

One of the questions was from a Celtic fan.

The Celtic supporter asked when Van Dijk is going to take free kicks for Liverpool.

The Netherlands international central defender used to take free kicks when he was at Celtic.

What Virgil van Dijk said

Van Dijk has said that he is not taking free kicks due to his Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Liverpool and England international right-back takes set-pieces for the Reds.

And he is actually very good.

However, Van Dijk has told the Celtic fan that he should be patient, as he could take a free kick in the future.

The Liverpool defender said on Sky Sports.: “I have just come back from quite a long injury, so I am focusing on other things to get back to.

“If you look at the team, Trent Alexander-Arnold, he has been showing for a couple of years that he is a very, very good free-kick taker. So, I can only say just be patient, there will be a day when I will try again.”

Nice response

It is quite a nice response from Van Dijk, and perhaps the Liverpool defender will take a free kick soon.

It is also quite generous of the defender to speak so highly of Alexander-Arnold.
