Southampton’s in-demand defender Virgil van Dijk believes that his side can go a long way in the Europa League this season, but bemoaned their poor away performances in the competition, highlighting how they have made their task of qualifying though to the knock-out stages all the more difficult, as quoted by the club’s official website.
The Dutchman has been a revelation for the Saints, since making his £11.5 million switch from Celtic to the south coast of England in September 2015, and has proved himself to be an indispensable member of Claude Puel’s starting XI, since the Frenchman’s appointment as manager in the summer.

The 25-year-old defender spoke to southamptonfc.com, and talked up his side’s chances of success on the continent, despite some questionable performances away from home:
“With the quality we have in the team, I think we have a chance to go far in the competition. We’ve made it a bit difficult for ourselves with the away results. We need to be focused.”

Puel’s men have been nothing if not consistent this season, with a mixture of some extremely impressive displays along with desperately poor performances.
They will certainly need a big performance from their key men tomorrow, where nothing less than a victory against Hapoel Be’er Sheva will do, if they want to progress to the knock-out stages of the competition.
