A picture paints a thousand words and that’s what Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has tried to convey on Twitter this afternoon.

Van Dijk and his Reds team-mates were thrashed 4-0 by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium last night.

It was Liverpool’s first game since being crowned Premier League champions, meaning that City, in keeping with tradition, lined up and gave Jurgen Klopp’s side a guard of honour before kickoff.

It must have been a touch humiliating for Pep Guardiola’s side, who won the previous two Premier League campaigns, but they seem to have used the embarrassment as motivation for a ruthless performance and one that their fans will remember for a long time, even if it doesn’t change anything in regards to the title.

And indeed, it doesn’t change anything, not in the slightest, and that’s what the Liverpool centre-back tried to suggest on social media today.

The Netherlands international elected against using words and instead simply posting a photo of the City players acknowledging him and his team-mates as champions.

As of right now, the post has nearly 30,000 likes and it seems like Van Dijk was successful in getting his message across.
