It’s safe to say that Liverpool fans have missed Virgil van Dijk.
The Reds’ faithful haven’t seen the Dutchman in action for over two months after his season-ending injury at Everton in October.
Not only have Liverpool missed the big Netherlands international, who placed second in the Ballon d’Or stakes 12 months ago, but the fans have too because he’s such a popular player.
And the feeling is mutual it seems.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have played at Anfield without Liverpool supporters for much of the year and even when restrictions were lifted, only 2,000 were permitted to attend home games.
But as we prepare to give 2020 a two-finger salute, the next 12 months promises much happier times and here’s Van Dijk’s message to the fans on Twitter:
Van Dijk has played an instrumental role in Liverpool’s Champions League and Premier League success over the past 18 months or so.
Considering he only joined from Southampton three years ago, the 29-year-old has achieved a lot but it’d be remarkable if Klopp’s side – who sit top of the Premier League table – go on to defend their crown without the former Celtic powerhouse available.
