Liverpool central defender Virgil van Dijk has raved about reported Tottenham Hotspur target and Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger on Sky Sports.

Van Dijk has said that Chelsea ace Rudiger is one of the best central defenders in the world.

90min reported in September 2021 that Tottenham wanted to sign the 28-year-old Germany international in the summer of 2021.

Spurs tried and failed, but the North London club remain interested in the 2021 Champions League and 2019 UEFA Europa League winner, who earns £100,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.

Van Dijk said: “If you look at Rudiger, I know him personally as well, I think he had a fantastic season last year and the way he came back from a knee injury. I have got even more respect for him going what I have been through now, seeing him doing so well. “

Antonio Rudiger would be stunning for Tottenham

Tottenham signed Cristian Romero in the summer of 2021, and he is a good defender.

However, Rudiger is more experienced, more mature and better, and there is no surprise that Tottenham remain keen on the 28-year-old.

The defender is out of contract at Chelsea next summer, and he would be a very good signing on a free transfer for Spurs.

However, you have to question whether Tottenham will be able to convince the defender to move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

After all, Spurs are unlikely to challenge for the Premier League title anytime soon.
