Janssen finally opened his Tottenham Hotspur account on Wednesday.
Former Manchester United and West Ham goalkeeper Raimond van der Gouw has told Talksport that Vincent Janssen will succeed at Tottenham Hotspur – eventually.
The striker moved to White Hart Lane in an £18.79 million deal (Transfermarkt) from AZ Alkmaar in July, but failed score in any of his first six appearances.
However, he was finally on target in Wednesday’s EFL Cup win against Gillingham, which should ease some of the pressure placed upon him by Harry Kane’s injury lay-off.
Janssen, whose stocky frame makes it easy to forget he is still only 22 years old, is in only his second season in the top flight of any nation having moved to Alkmaar from second-tier Almere City little over a year ago.
When asked if the Dutch international will succeed at Spurs, Van der Gouw told Talksport: “I think he will do well but the question mark is how long (will it take to) do it.
“For him it’s a big step. In Holland he came from the Championship, then he went to the Premier League in Holland and now he has made the step to the (English) Premier League. He’s making very quick, very fast progress.
“I expect he will do well but it will take a bit of time as well. He’s very strong, so that’s a good thing – it’s what you need in England.”
Kane is expected to miss around two months of action, which should see Janssen handed an extended run in Mauricio Pochettino’s side, continuing at Middlesbrough on Saturday.
Reassuringly, it took him eight games to register his first league goal for Alkmaar, before ending the campaign as the Eredivisie’s leading scorer with 27 strikes.
