Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has told Friday’s press conference that Ibrox duo Aaron Ramsey and Kemar Roofe will miss the next three matches – including the next Old Firm derby against Celtic.
Roofe and Ramsey both started against Celtic on Sunday in the Scottish Cup semi-final against the Hoops at Hampden Park. But Ramsey was forced off with an issue just before half-time, replaced by Scott Wright.
Ex-Leeds striker Roofe had a wonderful week, a hat-trick against St. Mirren before a goal and an assist in a superb performance to help Rangers beat Braga and reach the Europa League semi-finals. He started on Sunday.
Roofe lasted 109 minutes against Celtic as Rangers went to extra-time for the second game in the space of four days. Now, van Bronckhorst says both Ramsey and Roofe are aiming to be back for the home game against Leipzig.
Ramsey and Roofe out: Big Rangers blow ahead of crucial Celtic clash
It is massive for Rangers. Roofe had looked as though he was just coming into momentum, and Ramsey was beginning to show glimpses of the player that became an Arsenal icon – one that earned him a move to Juventus.
Every game is crucial for Rangers – but the next week and a half is massive. A tricky trip to Motherwell on Saturday is must win, and then a hugely testing clash against Leipzig in Germany, and Celtic next Sunday.
Three enormous games that Rangers will be without Roofe and Ramsey, as well as Ianis Hagi and Alfredo Morelos. When they need their best attacking talents most, Rangers will be without four of the best.
