Well, Rangers have hired Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
The Gers have officially appointed the Dutchman as Steven Gerrard’s successor.
Van Bronckhorst has returned to Glasgow after enjoying a brilliant playing career at Rangers.
Here’s how the 46-year-old reacted to the move on Instagram:
Hit the ground running
Gerrard left the Ibrox side top of the Scottish Premiership table, four points clear of Celtic.
That in itself hands the former Feyenoord coach a big advantage upon his return to the light Blues.
But the Hoops under Ange Postecoglou may smell blood because unless Van Bronckhorst hits the ground running, Rangers can and probably will drop points.
However, in the long term, this could be a fine appointment.
Remember, he led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title during his time in the Netherlands.
And despite a difficult 11-month stint in China, Van Bronckhorst’s stock as a head coach remains very high.
Sour taste
He will kick off his reign in Scotland with a League Cup semi-final with Hibernian on Sunday, which is a positive but it could also be a a negative.
Victory will raise confidence among the Rangers players immediately, following a period of instability left after Gerrard’s sudden exit.
Defeat, on the other hand, will make life quite difficult early on, even if it’s his first game.
The Scottish giants have only won one major trophy in 11 years, meaning every piece of silverware counts.
And being eliminated by Hibs this weekend will leave a sour taste in Rangers fans’ mouths.
