Tim Sherwood has told TalkSport (23/09/20 at 9:10 am) that Dele Alli’s value at Tottenham is going ‘gone downwards’.
The former Spurs boss claimed that Alli has been the ‘best pound for pound’ signing for the club in recent years, but given recent circumstances, he thinks that value is going the other way.
Rumours have been swirling around, left, right and centre about Alli’s future, as Jose Mourinho tries to get the best out of the player – the attack-minded midfielder started Spurs’ Europa qualifier win against Shkendija tonight and was substituted on the hour mark.
Sherwood warned Alli that he has to now prove Mourinho wrong and show that he is capable of getting back off the deck and breaking back into the starting XI on a regular basis.
“I was saying for many years he’s been the best pound for pound signing Tottenham have made in recent years,” Sherwood told TalkSport. “£5 million from MK Dons and he ends up a year later being in the England squad and his value rises.
“At the moment, his value is going downwards. It looks from the outside that Jose doesn’t like him. It’s up to Dele now to roll his sleeves up and whatever Jose said about him to prove him wrong.
“Bale has come in now. Where are you actually going to play Dele? Is he going to play as an eight? He’s not going to be a sitting midfield player. I think he’s best as a 10. As a free spirit.”

An inform Alli playing behind Harry Kane, with Heung-Min Son on the left and the returning Gareth Bale on the right is a combination Spurs fans want to see.
It could still happen if Alli can regain that form that initially earned him an England call at such a young age.
Mourinho has proven that he can get the best out of him because he did just that during the early days of his tenure, but it quickly went the other way as the months passed by.
