West Ham United should seriously consider a move for the Portugal international.
West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic
Hammers boss Slaven Bilic is under intense pressure from the West Ham faithful to produce the goods during this summer’s transfer window, following last year’s underwhelming recruitment drive at the London Stadium.
Some signings of genuine quality will be an absolute must, if the east London outfit are to return to the kind of form that saw them finish in seventh position in the Premier League table in the 2015/16 season.
One particular area of the Croatian’s squad that needs addressing is the wide attacking department, with January recruit Robert Snodgrass failing to fill the void left behind by Dimitri Payet, following the Frenchman’s acrimonious move to Marseille five months ago.
With this in mind, the Hammers should consider a move for Valencia winger Nani.
The 30-year-old moved to the Mestalla from Fenerbahce in the summer of 2016, and went on to enjoy a successful campaign in La Liga, scoring five goals and registering seven assists in 25 league outings for Valencia.
The Portuguese’s trickery in the final third would add a certain level of excitement for the West Ham fans, who have been deprived of exactly that since Payet’s exit from the club.
He is not just a show pony, however, and his direct playing style, along with his pinpoint deliveries, would surely improve the Hammers’ attacking output this season.
Nani in action for Portugal
He is under contract with Valencia until the summer of 2019, so he will not come cheap, but with the Spanish club’s finances in a far from healthy state, they would surely be tempted into selling, should a decent offer come their way.
And bringing Nani to the London Stadium could turn out to be a signing of real significance for West Ham.
