Celtic take on Valencia in Spain on Thursday as they look to progress to the next round of the Europa League.
Valencia boss Marcelino has stated that Celtic have a ‘clear philosophy’ but insisted they ‘could not’ implement it during their first-leg Europa League clash last Thursday.
Brendan Rodgers side travel to Spain looking to overturn a two-goal deficit after producing a lacklustre performance on home soil last time out.
Despite the La Liga club playing in front of a hostile crowd, they withstood the atmosphere and comfortably ran out as winners on the night.
Ahead of the return leg, Marcelino urged his players to give their ‘maximum effort’ as the tie is not over despite his team holding a healthy advantage on the Scottish club.
“Being relaxed is not good, ever,” said Marcelino, as quoted by the Daily Record. “The team’s mindset should be to win, no matter what happened in the previous match.
“We are going to try any way we can to convince the players that maximum effort, maximum concentration is the way to achieve a good result which is to be in the next round.
“Celtic have a clear way to play, a clear philosophy. if they could not do it more effectively at home it was because of the good job from an organisation and commitment point of view from us.”
In the first leg, Russia international Denis Cheryshev opened the scoring just before the break before Ruben Sobrino double his side’s minutes after the interval.
Now, the Spanish club will be looking to wrap up this tie in style and progress through to the next round and potentially lift the trophy at the end of the season.
But Rodgers side, who scored a last-minute winner against Kilmarnock on Sunday, will be looking to put a stop to that and proving their worth on the night.
If the Bhoys are to progress then they must showcase their attacking talent, keep the ball and not concede too many chances against a team that has lost on only four occasions in La Liga this season.
