Celtic take on Valencia in the Europa League tonight.
Valencia boss Marcelino has told the Daily Record that he thinks Celtic fans will match Liverpool’s atmosphere tonight – and possibly even better it.
Valencia head to Scotland this evening to take on Celtic in the Europa League knockout stages, having slipped out of the Champions League in the group stage.
The Spaniards have endured a frustrating season, drawing a league-high 13 games, winning just six, but their record of just four defeats is bettered by only Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
Sitting in eighth place in the La Liga table, Valencia need a strong Europa League run to give their fans something to shout about this term, and Celtic now stand in their way.
Brendan Rodgers’ side squeezed through their Europa League group to make it this far, and must now pull off something of an upset to get to the next round.
Parkhead should be rocking for a big European night, and Valencia boss Marcelino has admitted that he has heard of a ‘spectacular’ atmosphere at Celtic.
Marcelino noted that he was in charge of Villarreal when they faced Liverpool in 2016, but predicted that Celtic fans will at least match the Anfield atmosphere, if not better it.
“We heard it is a spectacular atmosphere and one of best in European football. We are very excited about that,” said Marcelino. “I have played an important match at Anfield before and I think it will be similar atmosphere if not better.”
“I think all professional footballers want to be play in this kind of atmosphere so we will have maximum motivation. The fans make the game spectacular, they make it difficult for the opposition,” he added.
