Rangers are allowing two goalkeepers to leave the club this summer, as Wes Foderingham and Jak Alnwick on the move upon the expiration of their contracts.

The Gers have veteran Allan McGregor as their first choice, but it will soon be time for Steven Gerrard to make a decision about his second choice.

Andy Firth isn’t really at that level, but Robby McCrorie has impressed out on loan. The youngster could be given a chance to push McGregor, or another signing may be made.

The Sunday Post recently noted that Vaclav Hladky is Rangers’ top target. Gerrard and co have identified the Czech goalkeeper as the ideal cover for McGregor, especially on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old St Mirren contract is up this summer, and Rangers were given a small boost on Tuesday when the Buddies confirmed Hladky’s exit.

A statement on their official website stated that Hladky was given the offer of a new deal. However, he has turned it down to ‘pursue options elsewhere’.

Rangers are the team most strongly linked with Hladky, though The Sunday Post’s report stated that Celtic are also keen to land him.

Hladky may only be a backup target for Celtic though, with Fraser Forster their top option. Rangers may not be able to promise Hladky playing time, but his impressive displays in Scotland have seemingly convinced them that he would be a strong signing.
