Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are seemingly keen on the Czech.

Vaclav Hladky has revealed that Steven Gerrard’s Rangers may be interested in signing him.

The Czech goalkeeper has been in fine form for St Mirren after joining the Scottish Premiership club in January of this year.

Both of Rangers’ senior keepers – Allan McGregor and Wes Foderingham – are out of contract at Ibrox next summer, as is Hladky.

And although the 28-year-old claims that the Buddies are trying to tie him down to an extension, the shot-stopper says that he has his heart set on a move down South – despite interest from the Gers.

He told The Scottish Sun: “Rangers are interested in me. Some negotiations are under way. But playing in England is the big dream.

“Going to the Championship would be ideal for me. That is preferable to staying in Scotland. This will be my last season with St Mirren. Negotiations took place about a new contract. But we have agreed that my football goals are a little higher than here.”

This is a smart strategy by Rangers; not specifically trying to sign Hladky, but looking at long-term replacements for McGregor.

Yes, the veteran Scot is a fine, fine goalkeeper but, by the same token, he turns 38 in January and the simple fact is that he won’t be around forever.

Hladky, who stands at 6’2, has clearly proven himself an asset in Scotland’s top flight and maybe, just maybe, he’d consider a move to Gerrard’s side if a switch to England didn’t materialise.
