Liverpool fans the world over are feeling a little old right now after seeing Kaide Gordon on Tuesday night.
Jurgen Klopp rewarded Gordon with a senior Reds debut at the age of only 16.
Football supporters seeing a 16-year-old player turn out for their team is nothing new really, particularly in the EFL Cup.
But one statistic has truly put Gordon’s youth into perspective.
He was born on October 5 2004, meaning that he wasn’t even born when the Rafael Benitez era at Anfield began a few months earlier.
And here’s how some Liverpool fans are reacting to that fact on Twitter:
Full debut
Not only was it Gordon’s senior Liverpool debut, but it was a full bow.
And when we say full, we mean in the sense that Klopp left him on for the entire 90 minutes.
That right there is evidence that the Liverpool boss was very happy with the youngster’s display and it’s fascinating to see how he’ll develop.
With the likes of Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane in the squad, Gordon probably won’t get many – if any – Premier League chances this season
But the longer that the Anfield club stay in the EFL Cup, the better for Gordon – and a 3-0 win at Carrow Road last night means that the gem could yet play in the next round too, depending on the opposition.
