Liverpool fans have been left baffled by claims that they won’t go out and purchase a midfielder this summer.

The Liverpool Echo say that Jurgen Klopp has decided that bolstering his midfield options is not a priority.

Georginio Wijnaldum may have left Liverpool this summer, but Klopp reportedly feels that the likes of Curtis Jones, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain can cover for his absence next season.

Reds fans do not agree with their manager’s reported decision though, and the transfer update has left them very bemused, heading into the summer.

Big gamble?

If Liverpool do opt to go without signing a midfielder Klopp’s side do seem to be taking a big risk.

Thiago’s improvements offer hope that he could take a regular slot in their midfield next term, while Fabinho and Jordan Henderson are likely to accompany him.

But Liverpool saw the importance of depth more than any side last season, after a spate of injuries.

Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain have proven unable to be relied upon due to fitness issues, while Jones is still very young.

Wijnaldum also played such an important role for the Reds that his departure will help them.

And if Liverpool do go without signing a midfielder then Klopp seems to be taking a big gamble on his key players all staying fit.
