Arsenal fans were left annoyed on Twitter after Ruben Dias wasn’t sent off during Manchester City’s win at Liverpool on Sunday.
In the second half, as Mohamed Salah ghosted past Dias, a slight tug on his shoulder resulted in the Liverpool man going down and then winning a penalty.
A yellow card was shown to the Man City defender and Arsenal fans questioned why he wasn’t sent off.
After the number of questionable decisions in the Premier League in recent weeks, including some against Arsenal, it’s understandable why their fans are a little cagey.
A selection of Arsenal supporters questioned why Dias wasn’t sent off if David Luiz was shown a straight red against Wolves last week.
Others also compared the situation to Luiz’s sending off against Man City themselves last season when the Brazil international fouled Riyad Mahrez in a similar fashion to the 62-minute Salah incident at the weekend.
Nonetheless, with on-field refereeing calls and VAR decisions not exactly winning over the fans, it isn’t a surprise that a number of supporters are annoyed at what they are seeing, not just with their own team, but others also.
Perhaps what helps Dias’ cause, in this case, is that John Stones was covering, so the Man City summer signing wasn’t exactly the last man.
But it wouldn’t be a surprise if a player is sent off for that exact situation in another game next week.
