Leeds United misfit Mateusz Klich faces a fascinating summer given the questions over his future, and Utrecht are already making plans for midfield reinforcements.

The Whites snapped up Polish international Klich from Twente last summer, and intended to make him a key part of their midfield before he was frozen out by Thomas Christiansen.

After just nine appearances, the 27-year-old was loaned back to the Netherlands with Utrecht, and it’s fair to say that he has impressed during his stint at Stadion Galgenwaard.

Klich has notched one goal and two assists in 15 games for Utrecht, whilst he even created a staggering 11 chances in one game against Heracles Almelo last month.

Utrecht may be looking to land Klich permanently, but Algemeen Dagblad report that they will be signing AZ Alkmaar midfielder Joris van Overeem this summer.

There are a number of moving parts in the Utrecht midfield; Yassin Ayoub will complete a move to Feyenoord this summer, whilst star playmaker Zakaria Laybad is being linked with a move to Ajax after a superb season.

Van Overeem could be lined up as a replacement for either of those players, but Klich must also come into the equation given that he will be returning to Elland Road this summer.

Utrecht could still move for Klich permanently, but with Van Overeem arriving, Leeds may find that Klich is returning to the club – and he would be hoping for a chance to shine under Paul Heckingbottom.
