Darren Bent has claimed that Harry Kane was at his ‘usual high standards’ despite Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday.
Even though Kane got on the scoresheet, it was an evening to forget for Antonio Conte’s side, but Bent thinks Kane was a standout for his below-par team, as he told Premier League Productions (23/10/22 at 6:30 pm).
It was a glancing header at the far post that pulled a goal back for the home side, when Kane got the better of his England teammate, Kieran Trippier.

But despite that goal, they didn’t create enough clear-cut chances to break down a very strong Newcastle side that has now moved into the Champions League places.
For Spurs, it’s back-to-back defeats after they were also beaten and outplayed on Wednesday night when Manchester United also put two goals past them.
Bent shared that Spurs just simply weren’t at the levels that you usually see from them, as he picked out Kane as a positive amongst the gloom.
“Better second half from Spurs, but still, for me, not at the levels you are used to seeing Spurs at,” said Bent. “Kane was at his usual high standards, he gets his goal. Son had a couple of chances, but other than that, they huffed and puffed and didn’t really test Newcastle too much. It was a poor showing.
“It was a typical Harry Kane goal. Really clever play and a striker’s finish. He was just gambling at that back post. It always flashes across that six-yard box and sometimes no-one is there. But he is always there, Harry Kane.”

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE IS UP NEXT…
It’s back-to-back defeats for Spurs at the wrong time because they have a very crucial Champions League game coming up on Wednesday night.
Sporting Lisbon, who beat the north London club during the reverse fixture, will travel to the capital hoping to cause another upset.
Whilst Conte’s side are sitting top of Group D, only one point separates them and third-placed Sporting.
If Ruben Amorim’s side, who is being tipped to become the next Aston Villa manager, win again and then Marseille beat Frankfurt, then Spurs are in trouble heading into the final round of matches.
