Some Arsenal fans have been reacting on social media to reports by La Repubblica, claiming AC Milan have been offered the chance to sign Lucas Torreira this summer.

The Uruguayan’s agent, Pablo Bentancur, is working to secure a route out of north London after returning from Atletico Madrid. Torreira helped the Wanda Metropolitano side secure the La Liga title while on loan from Arsenal, but does not want to now stay at the Emirates.

Bentancur told TuttoMercatoWEB recently: ‘He wants to go back to Italy,’ and added that Arsenal are aware of Torreira’s desires. The 25-year-old was also set to return to the Serie A, with Corriere dello Sport noting interest from Lazio.

But Lazio are only prepared to pay €15m (£13m) plus €1m (£860k) in add-ons, while the Gunners want €20m (£17m). Bentancur has now played on AC Milan’s need for new options to find another destination for Torreira to leave Arsenal.

He has approached the San Siro natives to sound out any interest in the £75,000-per-week dynamo. The Rossoneri need new midfielders this summer after Soualiho Meite returned to Torino following a loan spell. And they could also lose star player Franck Kessie.

Kessie has entered the final year of his contract in Milan, but there is considerable distance between the club’s renewal offer and his agent’s demands. Paolo Maldini wants to keep the Ivorian at the club, following Hakan Calhanoglu and Gianluigi Donnarumma’s exits.

But some Arsenal fans reacting on social media do not want Torreira to join Milan this summer. Instead, a few have urged Edu to use their £26m signing as a makeweight to land Sassuolo’s Manuel Locatelli.

The Serie A side’s Chief Executive Giovanni Carnevali has confirmed to Sky Italia that the Gunners have submitted an offer. But Juventus also want Locatelli, who Sassuolo value at €40m (£34.5m), per Gazzetta dello Sport.

Other Arsenal supporters would also be open to Torreira joining Milan in exchange for Kessie. Mikel Arteta’s side are leading the race to sign the 24-year-old against interest from Tottenham, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, but face a €50m (£43m) fee.
