Usain Bolt, the world’s fastest man, has praised the speed of Gareth Bale after his amazing solo goal against Barcelona
Usain Bolt has praised Real Madrid star Gareth Bale as the fastest footballer in the world following his superb solo goal against Barcelona on Wednesday.
Bale ran from inside his own half and beat Barca defender Marc Bartra for pace to score the winner in the El Clasico Copa Del Rey final, and claim his first major trophy as a footballer.
The Welshman has received praise from Bolt, who is the worlds fastest sprint athlete with a record of 9.58 seconds over 100m distance.
Bale ran 65 meters in 7.2 seconds on Wednesday night to score one of the best goals of his career. His goal had extra significance, not just because it was a winning goal in an El Clasico cup final, but it was a strike that also saw him step out of the shadow of Real Madrid team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo. It took his goal tally to 20 for the season in his first campaign at the Bernabeu.
His blistering pace has seen him earn many plaudits over the years, and on this occasion from the worlds fastest man and acclaimed Manchester United fan, Usain Bolt. Bolt is famously friends with Bale’s team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, but the Jamaican says that the Welshman is the fastest player in world football.
“It seems his past as an athlete helped him in this move. It’s a goal any sprinter in the world would like to score one day. He’s the fastest footballer in the world at the moment.”
Few footballers have been praised by the best in the world for something other than their talent in possession of the ball. But for Gareth Bale he can now add a complement from the world’s fastest man to sit alongside his first major club silverware.
