The pair were among the strugglers as Jurgen Klinsmann’s side were held to a 0-0 draw in their second World Cup qualifier in Port of Spain.

Tim Howard 7/10 – Making his first competitive start for the US since the 2014 World Cup, the Everton No. 1 came up with a handful of smart saves to ensure his side escaped Port of Spain with a point.

Michael Orozco 6/10 – Defensively sound but offered nothing going forward. That’s hardly surprising, though, when he’s a natural centre-half being forced to fill in at full-back.

Geoff Cameron 7/10 – Kept Kenwyne Jones in check after a nervy start and distributed the ball well from the back. The US might have their problems but the Stoke centre-back isn’t one of them.

Matt Besler 7/10 – See Cameron.

Tim Ream 4/10 – The Fulham defender’s lack of pace was exposed at full-back, as Cordell Cato burned him on several occasions before he was taken off for Nagbe with 22 minutes remaining.

DeAndre Yedlin 4.5/10 – Starting on the right wing, Sunderland’s Tottenham Hotspur loanee offered pace but not much else, as his outing was littered with poor turnovers and moments of questionable decision-making.

Jermaine Jones 6.5/10 – Put in an impressive defensive shift in the centre of the park and came close to scoring in the 78th-minute with a thumping shot that smashed off the crossbar.

Michael Bradley 6/10 – Eventually settled into the game after a very sloppy opening but couldn’t provide the talismanic performance needed against resolute opponents.

Fabian Johnson 6/10 – Very active down the left flank but his final delivery wasn’t quite there on this occasion.

Gyasi Zardes 3/10 – A very rough game for the LA Galaxy striker, as his touch seemed to desert him on the night. Had a golden chance to open the scoring just after the break but his close-range header from Altidore’s cross cannoned off the crossbar.

Jozy Altidore 6/10 – Suffered from a lack of service up top but held the ball up well and managed to create some decent chances for his teammates. That said, he still didn’t show enough of a ruthless streak in the final third.

SUBSTITUTES

Darlington Nagbe (Ream 68) 6.5/10 – Not everything he tried came off but his creativity was a welcome addition to the match. Shouldn’t be long before he’s pushing for a regular starting spot.

Bobby Wood (Zardes 75) 6/10 – Tasked with providing some super sub magic but didn’t see enough of the ball to make a difference.
