Tottenham defender started against Ireland and his performance drew a mixed reaction.

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Cameron Carter-Vickers is a player the USA national team have high hopes for.
He is already a senior international before starting a league game for his club, a stat he hopes to change this coming season.
The centre-back impressed on loan at Sheffield United and then Ipswich Town and hopes to fight for a first team place at Spurs this summer.

He started for USA against the Republic of Ireland at the weekend, a game his country lost 2-1.
No clean sheet for the young defender, playing alongside Chelsea’s Matt Miazga, led to concerns from fans.
Americans hope Carter-Vickers will be a big player for them in coming years, but are questioning whether he is ready right now.
I was not blown away by Cameron Carter-Vickers’ afternoon: 19/28 passing (68%), 5 clearances, 1 block, 4 recoveries, 3 fouls committed in 61 minutes. Didn’t seem comfortable passing out of the back.#IRLvUSA pic.twitter.com/u21tPiz0Km

Some of the criticism was not what Carter-Vickers wanted to be drawing, but his lack of quality in possession is clearly an area he must work on.
Simply getting the game time under his belt is a positive for the 20-year-old, and he can use the experience to his advantage in the future.

USA did not qualify for the World Cup, which has accelerated the country’s plans to blood new talent and build a new generation.
A few below par performances will be the consequence of playing him before he is really ready. His coaches will have to show patience.
Carter-Vickers will get more chances – and he he is to really progress, succeeding with Spurs is his real challenge, the rest will follow.
