Sunderland attacking midfielder Lynden Gooch has received widespread praise for his performance for the USA against New Zealand last night.

Gooch came off the substitutes’ bench just before the hour mark, during USA’s 1-1 draw with the All Whites yesterday.

The 20-year-old Sunderland man impressed with his creative quality, with his display injecting some spark into America’s performance.

Gooch wasn’t able to help USA get a victory, but he still did enough to get his country’s fans talking on social media website Twitter.

Gooch has enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence at Sunderland, with David Moyes showing great faith in the youngster.

Moyes has brought Gooch into Sunderland’s first-team, and the prospect’s displays have been one of very few positives to emerge at the Stadium of Light so far this term.

Gooch’s attention will now return to club matters, with Sunderland back in action at the weekend.

The Black Cats are due to face Stoke City, as they look to pick up their first Premier League win of the campaign.
