USA failed to qualify for the World Cup and this has prompted a real desire for change in their national team.

The US are currently focused on trying to bring through young players as they look to the future and picked an experimental line up for this week’s friendly with Paraguay.

Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea prospects Cameron Carter-Vickers and Matt Miazga featured at the heart of defence and were key in keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory.

Carter-Vickers is currently out on loan at Ipswich Town and Mizaga is on loan at Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem.

The young duo impressed, and US interim head coach Dave Sarachan was keen to praise the pair.

Sarachan was quoted by BoxScore News: “The centre-backs were outstanding. Carter-Vickers and Miazga didn’t put a foot wrong.

“They played with confidence and physicality. They were a pair that looked like they had been there before.”

The regular football they have been playing has boosted the duo, but their next step is to establish themselves as Premier League players.

Miazga, 22, is in his second season with Vitesse, while Carter-Vickers is on his second loan spell of this season.

Breaking into the Chelsea and Tottenham teams will not be easy, but their international exploits may help their coaches decide to take a chance on them.
