Liverpool will continue their quest for Champions League football when they take on Burnley at Turf Moor this week.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are very much back in the race for a top-four finish in the Premier League table this season and will be determined to win against Burnley on Wednesday evening.
You would have thought that Liverpool fans will be confident of a win.
After all, the Reds won against West Bromwich Albion at the weekend – thanks to goalkeeper Alisson’s goal in the final moments of the game – and also beat Manchester United 4-2 at Old Trafford last week.
Wins against Burnley tomorrow and Crystal Palace this coming Sunday will pretty much guarantee Liverpool a place in the top four.
The Clarets are safe from relegation and have nothing to play for.
Liverpool should find it easy against Burnley.
Or should they?
Some Liverpool fans are worried about tomorrow’s game after hearing who will be officiating.
Chris Kavanagh will be the referee, while Paul Tierney will be on VAR duty.
So why would some Liverpool fans be worried, you might ask.
Tierney was the referee during Liverpool’s games against Chelsea, Newcastle United and Manchester United earlier this season.
Liverpool manager Klopp and midfielder Jordan Henderson were far from impressed with Tierney during the goalless draw with the Red Devils in January.
While Henderson said that Tierney’s decision to blow the whistle for half time when Thiago played Sadio Mane through on goal was ‘very strange‘, Klopp was not happy on the touchline.
Klopp slammed Kavanagh for giving a penalty to Everton in the Merseyside derby in February.
