Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Aston Villa to ‘go and get’ Luis Suarez after the signing of Philippe Coutinho, as he told talkSPORT.

The former striker pointed out that Steven Gerrard is ‘no Mickey Mouse ex-footballer’ and he has some serious pull because he is ‘one of England’s greatest ever players’ now standing in the Villa Park dugout.

Whilst some may have been surprised by Villa bringing Coutinho to the Midlands, following his loan move from Barcelona.

It would be an even bigger shock if Suarez arrived from Atlético de Madrid, where he is an important player and Diego Simeone’s men are the current La Liga champions.

Nonetheless, this is what Agbonlahor had to say about Gerrard, Coutinho and Suarez.

“When I saw it (Coutinho), I was like ‘nah’,” said Agbonlahor. “Then I thought, ‘yeah, Steven Gerrard this is’.

“This is no Mickey Mouse ex-footballer, this is Steven Gerrard. One of England’s greatest ever players. One of Liverpool’s greatest ever players.

“He’s going to have the most amazing of relationships with Coutinho. Go and get Suarez next. Us Villa fans aren’t stopping. We are looking at these players.”

Aston Villa won’t be signing Suarez, even though they have done pretty well to bring his ex-Barcelona and Liverpool teammate to the Midlands.

But that doesn’t mean that more big names won’t join the club, either during the January transfer window or in the summer.

If Villa can attract these players without European football, it’s scary to think about what they can do if they secure Europe.

There’s no doubt that they have a chance during this campaign, but they have a much better shot next season when Gerrard has a full pre-season under his belt.
