US national team fans took to Twitter following Thursday’s 1-1 home draw with Ecuador to have their say on Tottenham Hotspur-bound DeAndre Yedlin’s performance in midfield.
The US national team were forced to settle for a draw against Ecuador in Landon Donovan’s farewell match, as a late goal from West Ham United striker Enner Valencia cancelled out Mix Diskerud’s first-half strike.
Having announced in August that he will retire from all forms of the game at the end of the 2014 MLS season, the three-time World Cup veteran captained the side for the first 40 minutes before coming off for midfielder Joe Corona, bringing down the curtain on a career which has produced a record 57 goals and 58 assists in 157 appearances since his October 2000 debut.
However, while the game marked the end of one chapter, there were also obvious glimpses into the future on a squad filled with promising talent, with the most obvious example being Tottenham Hotspur-bound DeAndre Yedlin.
Despite featuring exclusively at right-back for the Seattle Sounders since signing a Homegrown deal in January 2013, the eight-time capped speedster was given the start on the wing for the clash in East Hartford, Connecticut, and left fans more than impressed with his energetic outing which produced the assist for Diskerud’s opener.
It’s a conversion which has been proposed in the past and, judging from the reaction, one wonders whether Spurs might consider it once the £2.5 million man arrives at White Hart Lane in either the winter or summer of 2015.
