Brandt Snedeker is already turning his attention towards the Presidents Cup later this year.

The United States captain is balancing his own performances while keeping a close eye on potential selections.

Recent results at the Valspar Championship have given him plenty to consider. And two familiar names stood out once again.

Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay impress Brandt Snedeker before Presidents Cup

Snedeker admitted his focus has been split throughout the season as he prepares for his captaincy role.

“My focus has been split all year,” he said. “I want to make sure I play some good golf out here, but more importantly, I want to make sure I do a good job being Presidents Cup Captain.”

The American has been closely monitoring players on tour, keeping tabs on both their form and mindset.

“I’m watching, talking to the guys, and trying to see how they’re playing,” he added.

Two players who impressed him at the Valspar Championship were Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay.

“Excited to see Patrick play well today. Excited to see Xander play well today.”

Schauffele finished tied-fourth at eight-under-par after a superb final round of 66, while Cantlay ended the week just one shot further back at seven-under.

Both players have long been key figures for Team USA and have built a strong partnership in team competitions.

Snedeker’s comments suggest they could once again play a major role when the Presidents Cup arrives.

Brandt Snedeker endures mixed Valspar Championship performance

While keeping an eye on others, Snedeker was also in action himself at the Valspar Championship.

The 45-year-old finished tied-18th at four-under-par, but his week ended on a disappointing note.

A final round of five-over saw him drop down the leaderboard after earlier showing signs of contention.

It underlined the challenge of balancing competitive golf with the demands of captaincy. However, Snedeker’s priority is clearly building the strongest possible team.

And with players like Schauffele and Cantlay showing strong form, he has plenty of reasons to be encouraged.
