Celtic won’t have their captain Callum McGregor back for Thursday’s Europa League clash with Bayer Leverkusen.
McGregor has been missing for Celtic since the 3-0 win over Ross County in the Premiership on September 11.
Since then, Ange Postecoglou’s side have lost two, won one and drawn one of their subsequent four matches.
That right there illustrates the Scotland midfielder’s importance but although McGregor is back in training, Postecoglou confirmed in a pre-match press conference today that he won’t be available to face the German outfit in Glasgow tomorrow.
Celtic lost their first Europa League game this season, going down 4-3 away to Real Betis.
Another defeat could make their European campaign something of a let-down and there’s no doubt that their chances of losing increase without McGregor.
Here’s how some Celtic fans reacted to the blow:
Good news
The good news here is that he’s back in training and maybe he could be available to return for Sunday’s trip to Aberdeen.
Let’s face it, the Hoops won’t be winning the Europa League. Their goal is to reclaim their Premiership title from Rangers and therefore winning at Pittodrie is more vital than winning at Parkhead tomorrow night.
Celtic will miss the player against Leverkusen but, given their form, Aberdeen might be the bigger game and if he’s back for that then it’s a huge plus.
