Gary Neville says Richarlison was ‘upset’ at being substituted by Ange Postecoglou during Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-0 win over Manchester United on Saturday.

The 26-year-old started the game, but failed to make an impact in the final third, despite Tottenham creating a number of big chances.

Just after the hour mark, Ange Postecoglou decided to take off Richarlison and he didn’t look happy as he walked off the pitch.

And then, when he sat on the bench, the TV pictures showed the Brazil star ranting and pointing towards the pitch, with Neville adding, ‘I didn’t quite catch that, but I don’t think it was complimentary.’, as he told Sky Sports Premier League (19/08/23 at 7:00 pm).

Given that Richarlison has only scored one Premier League goal since his big-money move to Spurs, then he can’t argue much – even though he is still having a war of wards with a certain Michail Antonio.

In fact, if he is dropped for the next game, then he can’t put a case forward to be starting, with Neville sharing his thoughts on the former Everton star’s reaction when he went off yesterday.

“That’s an upset player,” said Neville. “No (like Fernandes he doesn’t cover his emotions).

“Perisic has gone onto the left and Son has gone up top, with Ben Davies going in at left-back.

On Richarlison mouthing off on the bench: “I didn’t quite catch that, but I don’t think it was complimentary.”

Son down the middle?

Tottenham are creating a load of chances, but they aren’t being ruthless enough in front of goal, with Richarlison being a key reason behind that.

Will Postecoglou continue to stick with Tottenham’s club-record signing and hope there is some light at the end of the tunnel?

Or will he be ruthless and drop him for the next game? He can play Son-Heung Min down the middle and some would argue that the club captain is a far better option.
