Some Arsenal fans want Mikel Arteta to hand a debut to Folarin Balogun tomorrow night.
The Gunners are back in Europa League action on Thursday as Arteta’s troops gear up for a visit of Dundalk to North London.
Arsenal could and definitely should have too much for the Irish outfit but the Spanish manager has seen his tactics and team selections come under scrutiny as of late.
Nineteen-year-old Balogun is one of the most exciting young players in the Gunners’ academy and two goals against Manchester United’s Under-23 side earlier this month suggests the striker could have another great season for the reserves.
But with Arteta’s side only managing four goals in their last six games across all competitions, some fans of the Emirates Stadium outfit want Balogun – heavily linked with a move to Sheffield United this past summer – to get a first-ever game for the senior side.
Here’s what they’re saying on Twitter:
This is wishful thinking from Arsenal fans.
Yes, they definitely need something new because their attack is looking increasingly stale, even with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. But despite being in the squad, Balogun will do well to even make the bench, if we’re honest.
If Arteta was a believer in the teenager, he would’ve used him regularly in pre-season and he didn’t, suggesting that the former Manchester City assistant isn’t quite convinced that he’s ready.
