Leeds United changed the fortunes of their season with a 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in August which may just have saved Garry Monk’s job after a poor start.
The Whites earned a surprise away victory against their rivals, with summer signing Marcus Antonsson opening the scoring before Chris Wood added another.
Antonsson’s spell at Leeds has failed to kick on since then, in fact it has been a bit of a nightmare.
The Swede cost Leeds £1.2 million in the summer, switching from Kalmar where he had netted 10 goals in 12 games.
His goal at Hillsborough was his one and only Championship strike, as he has failed to net since.
He scored a couple in the early rounds of the EFL Cup, but the 25-year-old’s record this season stands at one goal in 16 appearances.
After starting alongside Chris Wood against Wednesday, Garry Monk has preferred a lone striker, with Wood winning the battle, and has repaid his boss with 19 league goals.
Antonsson cannot get a look in, and is not even being used late in games as an option.
Against Ipswich Town at the weekend Antonsson was not even on the bench, despite the fact he was the only centre-forward available to Leeds as an alternative to Chris Wood.
Garry Monk may decide that after his effectiveness against the Owls in the first game he will bring him back into the fold this weekend, but really he is an afterthought, and the match against Wednesday is a reminder of his fall from grace.
