
Some Liverpool fans on social media have been reacting after their former player Sebastian Coates netted a Champions League brace for Sporting.
Coates played for the Reds between 2011 and 2015, and it’s fair to say he wasn’t exactly prolific – scoring just twice in four years at the club, including a sensational scissor kick against QPR.
However, on Tuesday evening, the Uruguayan looked like one of his famous fellow countrymen as he channelled his inner Luis Suarez, netting twice against Besiktas.
Coates even could have had a hat-trick, he won the penalty for the Portuguese outfit’s third goal, but he allowed Pablo Sarabia to convert.
As you can imagine, Coates’ brace sparked plenty of conversation amongst Liverpool supporters on social media, and fans were generally dumbfounded by the fact the centre-back scored two goals in a Champions League game.
One fan even claimed that it was the strangest Champions League brace since Divock Origi’s vs Barcelona, which, it has to be said, was rather bizarre.
