Edu has reacted on Instagram to Arsenal’s performance on Thursday night.

Arsenal looked set for a heavy beating at Liverpool in last night’s League Cup sem-final at Anfield.

Not before the game, but Granit Xhaka’s straight red card on 24 minutes gave the Gunners a mountain to climb and yet, climb it they certainly did.

Mikel Arteta’s outfit somehow escaped Anfield with a 0-0 draw ahead of next week’s second leg at the Emirates Stadium.

As far as defensive efforts go, this was utterly immense for Arsenal who, really, never even looked like conceding – a terrible miss by Takumi Minamino in stoppage time notwithstanding.

Here’s how the North Londoners’ transfer guru reacted to the result on social media afterwards.

Gutsy enigma

Arsenal continue to be quite the enigma.

Last weekend, they lost 1-0 to Championship outfit Nottingham Forest in the third round of the FA Cup.

And four days later, the Gunners produce one of the gutsiest performances that any supporter – theirs or otherwise – can remember from the Emirates Stadium club.

Famously, Arsenal have lacked a backbone for donkey’s years but under the Spanish manager they’re showing a lot of bottle.

Earlier in January they could – and should – have secured a draw against Premier League champions Manchester City despite having 10 men too, only for Rodri to score a stoppage-time winner.

Losing at Tottenham Hotspur would swiftly incise all of the feel-good factor achieved from a result like this, with Arteta’s side visiting the Lilywhites for a North London derby on Sunday.

But really, it’s growing increasingly difficult to argue that Arsenal aren’t headed in the right direction under the former Manchester City assistant.
