Gab Marcotti says Tottenham Hotspur and Daniel Levy would go in a ‘completely different direction’ if they appointed Luis Enrique as their new manager.
The European football expert added that Luis Enrique, who enjoyed great success in the colours of Barcelona, is an ‘unusual’ and ‘curious’ character, just like another possible candidate Julian Nagelsmann.
The duo are seemingly on Tottenham’s list to replace Antonio Conte, who was recently sacked after his outburst during his side’s 3-3 draw at Southampton prior to the international break.

Rather than drafting somebody in now, and despite Luis Enrique, 52, and Julian Naglesmann, 35, being out-of-work, Levy opted to wait until the summer to appoint a long-term manager.
Of course, that’s when things will become a lot more clear, no more so than if Spurs will be in the Champions League, not forgetting the future of Harry Kane.
Nonetheless, could Enrique be a possible appointment Levy could make, journalist and European expert Marcotti thinks the Spurs chairman has made the right call to wait until the summer, as he told ESPN.
“You have Luis Enrique, who is a curious character,” said Marcotti. “You could have appointed him now. But let somebody else run the team, so you can maybe try to learn the league.
“Luis Enrique is the moon shot. If you bring in Luis Enrique you are saying ‘we are going to go in a completely different direction’ and Nagelsmann too.
“These are defining tenure fundamentals. Both are unusual characters.”

TRIP TO GOODISON…
Prior to the international break, Spurs couldn’t cope with an all-aggressive, in-your-face and front-foot relegation-threatened side doing everything to earn points.
Well, whilst Southampton posed those issues for the north London club, Sean Dyche’s improving Everton, especially at Goodison Park, will be no different and perhaps better.
Given everything that has happened at Tottenham this past few weeks, if Everton smells blood, then you can bet your bottom dollar, they will do everything to try and eat the Champions League-chasing opponents alive.
