Bruno Lage’s Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly set to miss out on Chelsea player Ethan Ampadu to Italian club Spezia.
Earlier this month, La Nazione reported that Wolverhampton Wanderers are among the clubs who want to sign Ampadu in the summer transfer window.
The report in the Italian publication claimed interest in the 21-year-old Wales international, who can operate as a centre-back or as a defensive midfielder, from Empoli, Spezia and Cremonese as well.
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio and Fabrizio Romano are now reporting on Twitter that it is Italian club Spezia who are on the verge of signing Ampadu from Chelsea this summer.
The youngster will undergo a medical early next week before making a loan move.
This suggests that Wolves are about to miss out on a player Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte rates highly.
Conte managed the Wales international when he was at Chelsea, and he spoke highly of Ampadu, who was just a teenager at the time.

ESPN quoted Conte as saying in January 2018: “He’s showing in every game that I made this decision with him — against Everton, against Bournemouth [in the Carabao Cup] — that he’s ready.
“That he’s ready to face this type of game. To play with the right concentration. To be ready physically and tactically. To play at this level.
”This [physical and tactical quality] is unusual for a player who is only 17 years old. But that shows, at the same time, that age is not important.
“The most important thing is that you show, when I give you the chance to play, you repay me with a good performance. We are talking about a really good prospect for Chelsea, for the present and the future.”
Ampadu has created two big chances in 26 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
The youngster would have been a good signing for Wolves, but it seems that it is Spezia who will sign him.
