Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has delivered a further update on the Lisandro Martinez situation as both Arsenal and Manchester United circle the Argentine.

Unfortunately for Arsenal, Manchester United seem to be leading this race at the moment, but like a dog with a bone, the Gunners are not giving up on this one.

Indeed, according to Romano, Arsenal are willing to fight tooth and nail right until the very end to sign Martinez.

What’s been said?

Romano spoke about how much Arsenal want to sign the Argentine.

“Lisandro Martinez has been very clear with Ajax. He had a meeting with Ajax and his message was that he wants to go to the Premier League. He wants to feel free to pick Man United or Arsenal. Let me say that Erik ten Hag could be an important factor, this is why Manchester United are confident, but Arsenal will be on it until the end, I will keep you posted on it this week,” Romano said.

“Ajax are now prepared to discuss with Lisandro and to let him go because United and Arsenal are really, really pushing.”

Got a chance

Erik ten Hag may be a factor in Martinez wanting a move to Manchester United, but Arsenal are in with a chance.

According to Goal, Martinez is a big fan of Mikel Arteta’s vision, and after the signings of Fabio Vieira and Gabriel Jesus, the Gunners are shaping up nicely for the new season.

Meanwhile, in typical fashion, Manchester United don’t have their house in order. Cristiano Ronaldo is angling for a move away, while the Red Devils are struggling to attract a number of their top targets.

United seem to be in the lead for Martinez’s signature at the minute, but don’t be shocked if the Gunners end up getting this one over the line.
