Algeria international Haris Belkebla has ruled out a move to Celtic or Rangers, telling Competition that he wants to stay with Brest for a further 12 months.

While the Ligue 1 outfit have already accepted defeat in their hopes of keeping the Premier League-linked Ibrahima Diallo at the Stade Francis Le Ble this summer, it seems that the Belkebla situation is a little different.

North African publication Competition backs up claims that the French-born 26-year-old has received an offer to sign for Scottish Premiership winners Celtic.

Glasgow neighbours Rangers have also been linked, via L’Equipe in June.

But after enjoying an impressive first-ever season in Ligue 1, Belkebla has little interest in making a move across the Channel so soon.

“I’m going to do another season with Brest,” says a man dumped out of Algeria’s AFCON-winning side in 2019 in rather embarrassing circumstances.

“I hope that I will be spared from fitness concerns in order to have a full season. For my eventual departure from the club, I prefer to put it off until next year.”

Belkebla’s current contract is due to expire in 2022, meaning his market value is likely to drop substantially next summer unless he agrees fresh terms at Brest.

Celtic and Rangers, then, will be watching the situation closely over the next 12 months.
