The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was outstanding at the weekend.
Tottenham Hotspur’s 4-1 victory against Liverpool on Sunday was an emphatic statement of intent from Mauricio Pochettino’s side and, while the usual suspects took the plaudits, an unsung hero played a major role in the victory in the form of Harry Winks.
Goal-scorers Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Dele Alli were all praised after the final whistle, but Tottenham’s free-flowing attacking style would not have been possible without Winks ensuring everything ticked along in the centre of the park.
Not for the first time, and certainly not for the last, Winks was a vital cog in this Tottenham machine and, when you consider his age and relative inexperience, it is truly exciting to think how good he can become.
Spurs have a number of talented youngsters on their books but Winks is one of the very best, and Liverpool’s midfielders were shown up by a 21-year-old who is only just starting his own journey.
That looks set to be both long and illustrious and Pochettino will have watched in pleasure as Winks dictated the tempo and ensured his more attack-minded Tottenham teammates did what they do best.
What Winks does best is quietly and effectively influence the midfield and Tottenham look set to enjoy many more handsome victories with the academy product pulling the strings.
