Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to praise Xherdan Shaqiri for his performance in the 2-0 Champions League win over FC Midtjylland.

The former Bayern Munich and Inter Milan star has barely featured under Jurgen Klopp so far this term, and is yet to play a single second of Premier League action.

However, the Switzerland international was trusted to start against FC Midtjylland, and he certainly didn’t let the former Borussia Dortmund boss down.

It was Shaqiri’s delicate pass to Trent Alexander-Arnold which allowed the right-back to assist Diogo Jota for the opener. In addition to that, Liverpool’s No.23 was excellent throughout.

According to SofaScore, the 29-year-old – who Liverpool paid £13 million for – had 64 touches and made two key passes at Anfield on Tuesday evening.

Shaqiri also completed 36 passes and one dribble, while also showing his industrial side with two interceptions and a clearance against the Danish giants.

The diminutive attacker did, however, lose the ball on 15 occasions. Having said that, Liverpool’s Swiss star enjoys playing cutting-edge football, so he’s naturally going to give the ball away sometimes when putting it at risk so often.

Liverpool now sit top of Group D after recording two wins from two.

Klopp’s men are yet to concede a goal having faced Ajax and FC Midtjylland, which is impressive given their injury crisis in defence.
