Jack Grealish, Tyrone Mings and other Aston Villa players have taken to Instagram to send messages to Matt Targett.
The Aston Villa players have been heaping praise on the £35,000-a-week full-back, after he was named as Players’ Player of the Season.
To be recognised by your own teammates is arguably more special than winning the fan-voted Player of the Season award, in our view.
In a side containing the likes of Grealish, Emiliano Martínez and Ollie Watkins, Targett did superbly to win the award.
In response to his Instagram post, Mings wrote: ‘Well deserved mate, what a season.’
Matty Cash added: ‘Well deserved unreal season.’
Grealish responded with some heart-eye emojis, while Martínez described Targett as Aston Villa’s most consistent player this season.

How did Matt Targett get on this season?
Simply put, the 25-year-old was absolutely superb.
Aston Villa’s No.18 started all 38 Premier League games, recording two assists along the way.
Impressively, Targett was also the only ever-present defender in a backline which kept 15 clean sheets – the third most in the Premier League behind Manchester City and Chelsea.

You could argue that the ex-Southampton man deserved a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad as a result of his efforts.
While he – sadly – wasn’t named in the provisional squad for EURO 2020, international recognition surely isn’t far off if he keeps playing like this.
