Arsenal fans have reacted on Twitter after they joined the race for highly-rated Sporting Lisbon defender Nuno Mendes.
Portuguese outlet O Jogo have claimed that Arsenal have come forward with a declaration of intent in wanting to sign the 19-year-old.
It is said that Nuno Mendes has a £40 million release clause in his contract after recently putting pen-to-paper on a new deal.
Arsenal already have the rising Kieran Tierney on their books, with Sead Kolasinac as the back-up, but it seems that he could be heading for the North London exit door this summer [Bild].
Therefore, Arsenal fans on Twitter find it understandable that they are searching for a back-up, but quite clearly, they wouldn’t pay such a fee for his services.
The only positive is that the release clause doesn’t necessarily need to be met in order to sign him, a deal can be agreed with a much lower fee.
That would clearly interest the Gunners faithful, who have been very busy during this summer transfer window and it doesn’t seem like they are stopping just yet.
