Alan Shearer has raved about reported Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea target Allan Saint-Maximin on Match of the Day 2 on BBC One (10:46pm, August 21, 2022) for his performance for Newcastle United against Manchester City at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Sunday.
The Newcastle legend believes that Saint-Maximin was “unplayable” at times against defending Premier League champions Manchester City.
Newcastle played out a 3-3 draw with City at home in the league on Sunday.
French winger Saint-Maximin gave two assists.
The £93,000-a-week (SalarySport) Newcastle star has been linked with Tottenham and Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
The Northern Echo reported on July 22 that Chelsea and Tottenham are interested in signing Saint-Maximin from Premier League rivals Newcastle this summer.

Praise for Tottenham and Chelsea target Allan Saint-Maximin
Shearer said about Saint-Maximin on Match of the Day 2 on BBC One (10:46pm, August 21, 2022): “It was a fantastic game of football from start to finish, and Newcastle really caused them problems in forward positions, particularly down their left-hand side, with Allan Saint-Maximin, who I thought was unplayable at times.”
Making a point
In our view, Allan Saint-Maximin’s performance against Manchester City should show Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea what they would get if they sign the Newcastle United winger this summer.
The winger was brilliant on his flank and caused all sorts of problems for the City defence.
We know that City are arguably the best and strongest team in England, but the way the French winger made their defence look ordinary should tempt Tottenham and Chelsea even more into making a bid for him before the summer transfer window closes next week.
