Roy Keane was critical of the manner in which Liverpool ended the first half of their 3-1 win at Crystal Palace, as he told Sky Sports PL on Super Sunday.
Liverpool went into the break with a 2-0 lead, but a number of error-prone moments nearly resulted in Palace scoring.
At times, they were saved by Alisson Becker in between the sticks or they were fortunate Jean-Philippe Mateta saw his first-half opportunity breeze past the post.
During his half-time analysis, Keane seemingly wanted to label Liverpool’s play as ‘sloppy’ because it was getting ‘so easy for them’.
But the outspoken pundit shared that he was ‘wary’ of using such a word, unless Jurgen Klopp ‘comes after me’ because the German didn’t take too kindly when Keane used that word during Liverpool’s win against Arsenal last season.
“It was so easy for them,” said Keane. “I am a bit wary of saying that ‘they got sloppy’ unless Klopp comes after me.
“This is what happens when it gets too easy. Your centre-half (Matip), there is no benefit. It’s a dangerous pass.
“Again here, Firmino. This is just really, really poor – but a reminder to Liverpool that how good you are or however comfortable. You can get sloppy and punished.”
Liverpool raced into an early lead when Virgil van Dijk’s bullet header powered them ahead after eight minutes.
The Reds were all over Patrick Vieira’s side and they made it 2-0 after half an hour, this time through Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
In truth, it could have been a lot more during that first period, but that’s when Liverpool’s sloppy play started to kick in.
And whilst the Reds were dominant in the first half, the same could be said for Palace in the second, with Odsonne Édouard deservedly pulling a goal back within ten minutes of the restart.
Then controversy hit when Fabinho scored from the spot to seal the points, all though there were question marks over the penalty awarded against Palace.
